A commercial electric tank needs an installation review
The current Bradford White family page lists SLE280T6-1; its May 2026 specification sheet uses the base designation SLE280T6. This guide follows that current listing while retaining the established 80-gallon guide URL. A suffix display difference alone does not establish a new generation or a changed electrical configuration. WHE starts with the complete supplied model, rating plate and the building’s hot-water demand.
If you are replacing an older residential 80-gallon electric heater, ask WHE to compare the current residential options and hybrid / heat pump water heaters. We assess the equipment and proposed work before recommending a replacement.
Check the complete electrical configuration
The current SLE specification sheet lists 277 volts, single phase and 12.2 kW total input, using two 6,100-watt elements that operate simultaneously. That published configuration should not be treated as a standard 240-volt residential replacement.
Send a clear photo of the existing heater’s rating plate, including its full model suffix. WHE confirms the exact supplied equipment, its manufacturer documentation and the electrical work needed for your property. The combined LE/SLE installation manual covers more than one product configuration; its wiring examples are not a reason to assume a different voltage or operating arrangement for this model.
Capacity, recovery and space
The specification sheet lists 80 gallons rated nominal capacity and 50 gallons per hour recovery at a 100°F temperature rise for its published configuration. Recovery is a reheating rate, not stored volume or a first-hour rating.
Tell us when hot-water shortages occur, which fixtures operate together and whether demand has changed. For fit, we check the heater’s dimensions, doorway and removal access, water connections, drainage and room for service. A wider photo of the existing installation is useful alongside the rating-plate photo.
Complete dimensions and connection sizes
The current SLE280T6 row lists a 60-inch height to the heater top (A), a 24-inch jacket diameter (B), and a 61-inch height to the water connections (C). The water connections are 8 inches apart on center (D) and use 3/4-inch NPT threads (G). The top-mounted T&P connection is 61 9/16 inches above the floor (E). Approximate shipping weight is 183 pounds; that is not the filled operating weight.
Allow additional space for the pan, drain routing, piping and electrical access. Future service needs include reaching the element covers, drain and anode. A tank that clears the doorway can still be difficult to service once the final connections are in place. WHE checks the supporting location and removal route alongside the measurements of the new equipment.
Compare the 65-, 80- and 119-gallon models
The SLE265T6-1 has 65 gallons rated nominal capacity and a narrower 22-inch jacket. It shares the 80-gallon model’s 60-inch heater height, 61-inch water-connection height and 3/4-inch NPT water connections. It can be worth comparing when width is limited and the smaller stored reserve meets the demand.
The SLE2120T6-1 is rated at 119 gallons despite the 120 in its model number. Its jacket is 28 inches wide, its heater top is 63 inches above the floor and it uses 1-inch NPT water connections. These differences affect access and pipework as well as stored volume.
All three models list the same 12.2 kW input and 50 GPH recovery at a 100°F temperature rise. More storage does not mean a higher published recovery rate in this family. At a 90°F rise, the sheet lists 56 GPH. The sheet does not provide a model-specific UEF, residential first-hour rating or separate DOE rated-storage figure, so those values are not inferred from another Bradford White family.
Describe both concentrated draws and sustained demand when discussing a replacement. A larger stored reserve may help with a short peak, while a long period of use also depends on recovery. If the existing heater previously met demand, a new shortage may call for diagnosis before changing tank size.
Estimate, warranty and maintenance
The estimate considers the selected equipment, supplier availability, access, removal, plumbing changes and any electrical work. We confirm the scope before discussing an installation date. Keep the model and serial numbers and installation records for future service.
The manufacturer lists a six-year limited tank warranty and one-year limited component-parts warranty for this model. Its commercial warranty sets the coverage and exclusions; removal and installation charges are not included. WHE explains installation coverage separately.
Follow the supplied maintenance instructions. We can discuss inspection and care for the installation and local water conditions. Tank-protection features do not replace maintenance.
SLE280T6-1 questions
Can the SLE280T6-1 replace my home’s 80-gallon electric heater?
The gallon size is not enough to establish suitability. This guide covers a commercial model with a published 277-volt configuration. WHE reviews the exact equipment and electrical supply and can compare residential alternatives for your home.
Can I assume every SLE280T6-1 has the configuration shown here?
Confirm the complete model number and rating plate of the actual unit. The figures on this page describe Bradford White’s current published specification. We verify the supplied equipment and manufacturer requirements before recommending an installation.
Is this a hybrid heat-pump water heater?
No. This model heats stored water with electric resistance elements. If you want to compare a heat-pump option, ask us to assess its location, airflow, drainage and electrical requirements.
Will it fit where my current heater is installed?
We check the tank dimensions and connections along with access for removal, installation and future service. Send photos of the complete installation, not just the heater label.
How do I request an estimate for this model?
Request a free installation estimate and mention Bradford White SLE280T6-1. Tell us whether the property is a home or business and share the current model details. WHE follows up to confirm suitability, availability, proposed work and scheduling.
