Is the 65-gallon RH375-30 right for your home?
The Rheem PROPH65 T2 RH375-30 is the middle size in this ProTerra comparison: 65 gallons nominal capacity with 59 gallons of rated storage. It combines heat-pump operation with electric elements in the RH375 side-connection design.
The 65 can be useful to evaluate when the 50’s storage is too limited but overhead room makes the 80 difficult to place. It shares the 80’s 24¼-inch body diameter while standing 10 inches shorter. WHE checks actual demand, room ventilation and access before treating that size advantage as a suitable installation.

The 75-gallon first-hour rating is a standardized delivery measure, not the amount stored or a guarantee for every shower schedule. UEF compares energy performance under test conditions; it does not predict an individual home’s bill. Incoming water temperature, room temperature, operating mode and usage affect results. The published recovery figure should not be presented as a heat-pump-only recovery rate.
Measure the full installation space
Rheem’s model-specific drawing gives a 64 3/16-inch body height and 24¼-inch body diameter. Dimension H, 81⅛ inches, includes the illustrated duct elbow. Side fittings, relief-valve access, filter removal and service space require additional room beyond the cylinder itself. Check floor support for the filled heater as well as the delivery route; 225 pounds is the empty unit weight.
The 65 adds 14 gallons of rated storage over the 50, with a first-hour rating 8 gallons higher. Moving to the 80 adds another 13 gallons of storage and 12 gallons in the first-hour test, but the body becomes 10 inches taller. The 65’s 75-gallon first-hour figure comes from its RH375 row; the later RH400-30 sheet lists a different figure and should not be substituted.
Airflow, condensate and placement
A heat pump draws heat from the surrounding air and discharges cooler air. WHE checks the usable room volume, air path, fan and compressor sound, and the distance to living spaces. A garage may be suitable, but a small enclosed closet needs a ventilation or ducting plan. This electric heater has no combustion flue or gas connection; optional air ducts serve a different purpose.
Rheem’s RH375 sheet and AP21937 manual illustrate an unducted room larger than 700 cubic feet without additional ventilation, with separate arrangements for smaller rooms and closets. The manual calls for 6 inches above the unit for airflow and filter access. Those examples are not permission to fit the tank into any space of similar volume: exhaust direction, openings, service access and the exact supplied instructions still matter. Rheem lists a 37–145°F ambient operating range, referring to surrounding air rather than the water-temperature setting.
The ¾-inch condensate connection needs a suitable drain route or properly selected condensate pump. Rheem says condensate should not discharge into the water-heater drain pan. We also check the pan and leak-management plan, relief-valve discharge, water pressure and thermal expansion. Keep the washable air filter and service panels accessible.
Electrical supply, controls and leak protection
The RH375-30 specification lists 208–240V single-phase power, a 30-amp breaker, 4,500W element rating, 5,000W total unit wattage and 21A maximum current. WHE verifies the nameplate, available circuit, disconnect and grounding before installation. It is not a 120V plug-in heater, and the 15-amp version’s requirements cannot be substituted for this model.
Operating modes include Energy Saver, Heat Pump, High Demand, Electric and Vacation/Away. Mode selection affects how the compressor and resistance elements meet demand; relying more heavily on electric elements changes energy use. Built-in EcoNet Wi-Fi supports remote controls and monitoring with a suitable internet connection, while EcoPort provides a demand-response interface.
Automatic leak shutoff is not standard on this RH375-30 model. The RH375 sheet lists leak sensor and shutoff upgrade kit SP21111 separately. The SO versions are distinct models. WHE confirms accessory compatibility and what is included in the proposed equipment rather than treating a shared ProTerra name or photograph as proof of installed protection.
Compare the 50-, 65- and 80-gallon RH375-30 models
| Nominal size / model | Rated storage | UEF | First-hour rating | Body height × diameter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 / PROPH50 T2 RH375-30 | 45 gal | 3.88 | 67 gal | 61¾ × 22¼ in. |
| 65 / PROPH65 T2 RH375-30 | 59 gal | 4.05 | 75 gal | 64 3/16 × 24¼ in. |
| 80 / PROPH80 T2 RH375-30 | 72 gal | 4.07 | 87 gal | 74 3/16 × 24¼ in. |
These are the 30-amp versions. Each lists 27 GPH recovery at a 90°F temperature rise, so additional storage and first-hour delivery should not be described as faster published recovery. The separate RH375-15 models have different electrical and performance ratings.
The 80-gallon RH400-SO already in WHE’s catalog is a separate ProTerra model with top/side water connections and LeakGuard. Its features should not be assumed on this RH375-30. Compare the complete model number, connection layout and supplied accessories when reviewing an estimate.
Maintenance and limited warranty
Rheem publishes a 10-year limited tank and parts warranty for this model, subject to its applicable Residential Warranty Certificate. That is not a promise of ten years of labor or unconditional replacement. Eligibility, exclusions and any labor coverage must be checked against the supplied certificate and installation records.
Maintenance planning includes the washable filter, condensate path, anode condition and sediment. Where a home has hot-water recirculation, WHE reviews the piping and controls because continuous circulation adds heating load. An installation estimate depends on the selected equipment and the work required; no stock or price is assumed from the manufacturer’s listing.
Use the RH375 documents for this exact model
This guide uses Rheem’s HP-375-NO SO Rev. 3 specification sheet (December 2023), which explicitly lists these RH375-30 model numbers. At review, the product pages’ linked specification file was HP-400-NO SO Rev. 1, covering the later RH400 top-connection models, and their linked AP23657 manual also showed the later connection arrangement. Those documents must not be used to add RH400 features or ratings to an RH375.
For generation-specific installation reference, see Rheem’s AP21937 Rev. 01 use and care manual, English/French edition. The later manual also differs on room-volume guidance. Confirm the instructions supplied with the exact model and serial number before installation. The product pages’ height/depth summaries differ from the labeled drawing dimensions; the body dimensions used here are A and B from the RH375 sheet.

PROPH65 T2 RH375-30 frequently asked questions
How does the 65 compare with the 80-gallon model?
The RH375-30 65 has 59 gallons rated storage and a 75-gallon first-hour rating. The 80 has 72 gallons rated storage and an 87-gallon first-hour rating. Both have a 24¼-inch body diameter, but the 80 is 10 inches taller.
Is RH375-30 a 15-amp or 30-amp ProTerra?
This exact suffix identifies the 30-amp version. Rheem’s row lists 208–240V single-phase power, 5,000W total unit wattage and 21A maximum current. The separate RH375-15 models have different requirements and performance.
Does this model include automatic LeakGuard shutoff?
No factory automatic shutoff is listed for RH375-30. Rheem’s RH375 sheet identifies a separate leak sensor and shutoff upgrade kit. Verify the included equipment and accessory compatibility before ordering.
Can it fit in a closed water-heater closet?
Physical tank fit is only one part of the check. WHE reviews usable air volume, ventilation or ducting, exhaust direction, filter access, required clearances and condensate drainage against the supplied instructions.
Are the RH400 specifications on Rheem’s linked download interchangeable?
No. The currently linked sheet covers RH400 models, including a different connection design. This guide uses the RH375-specific table. Confirm the delivered model label, correct manual and applicable warranty certificate.
