Is the E6N-50LB 110 right for your home?

The American E6N-50LB 110 is the 48-gallon nominal, blanket-included lowboy in this top-connect range. It pairs 44 gallons of rated storage with a 60-gallon first-hour rating. Its 34-inch body height can suit some low-clearance replacements, but the 26½-inch diameter makes floor space and access-route measurements especially important.

This is the largest of the three blanket-included models compared here. The extra stored water may help with a concentrated period of use, but the published recovery rate remains 21 gallons per hour at a 90°F temperature rise. A larger tank does not automatically mean faster recovery after the reserve is used.

These figures identify the linked 240V, 4,500W configuration. The broader series sheet also shows other available wattages; those are not the electrical rating of every supplied unit. First-hour delivery, stored volume and recovery rate measure different things. UEF is an efficiency rating, not a guaranteed utility bill.

Dimensions, blanket and replacement fit

The drawing lists a 34-inch body height and 26½-inch diameter. WHE checks the doorway, drain pan, top connections, supplied blanket and room to reach the front service panels. American’s product page lists 170 pounds shipping weight, while specification sheet NRESS00117 lists approximately 172 pounds. Neither figure is the weight of a full installed heater.

American marks this exact product as “Blanket Included: Yes.” The series sheet also identifies it as shipping with a supplied insulation blanket. Follow the instructions supplied with the heater and blanket, and confirm the finished outside dimensions for a tight fit. The shared manufacturer photograph shows the lowboy series without the blanket; the three sizes have different dimensions.

Electrical supply, plumbing and service access

The 110 suffix is part of the model designation, not a 110V power requirement. This product configuration is rated 240V. WHE checks the supplied heater’s data plate, wiring diagram and existing electrical circuit before confirming the installation. Two 4,500W elements should not be added together and advertised as a 9,000W input for this selected model.

Top hot and cold connections need working room above the heater. The location also needs access to the front element and thermostat panels, drain valve and anode. WHE checks floor support for the full heater, a suitable drain pan and drainage route, water pressure, thermal expansion and temperature-and-pressure relief discharge. This conventional electric model has no combustion flue or heat-pump airflow requirement.

Compare the 28-, 38- and 48-gallon blanket-included models

Model Nominal / rated storage UEF First-hour rating Height × diameter
E6N-30LB 110 28 / 26 gal 0.89 43 gal 30 × 20 in.
E6N-40LB 110 38 / 34.7 gal 0.92 51 gal 32 × 23 in.
E6N-50LB 110 48 / 44 gal 0.93 60 gal 34 × 26½ in.

Compared with the 38-gallon model, this heater adds 9.3 gallons of product-page rated storage and nine gallons in the first-hour test. It is two inches taller and 3½ inches wider. Against the 28-gallon model, it adds 18 gallons of rated storage but needs 6½ inches more diameter.

All three selected configurations list 21 GPH recovery at a 90°F rise. Actual delivery depends on incoming water temperature, settings and how hot water is used. The lower-wattage E6N-40LBW and E6N-50LBW are separate variants with different delivery ratings; do not substitute their specifications for these models.

Maintenance and six-year limited warranty

The series includes a glass-lined tank, anode protection, an Incoloy stainless steel lower element and a brass drain valve. The specification sheet explicitly excludes lowboy models from its self-cleaning dip-tube design. Sediment and anode maintenance still matter, and the installed blanket must allow the required service access.

American lists six-year limited tank and parts coverage for this model. Eligibility, installation, maintenance and use conditions apply; the warranty is not six years of included labor. Review the certificate for the supplied heater, including responsibility for removal, reinstallation and other costs.

American E6N-50LB 110 FAQs

Why does the 50LB model list 48 gallons?

American markets it in the 50-gallon class, but the detailed specifications list 48 gallons nominal capacity and 44 gallons rated storage. Its 60-gallon first-hour rating includes water heated during the test and is not its stored capacity.

Does this exact model include an insulation blanket?

Yes. American lists “Blanket Included: Yes” for product item 100269411, and the series sheet identifies E6N-50LB as a model that ships with a supplied blanket. Confirm the packaged equipment and follow its blanket instructions.

Does the 110 suffix mean it runs on 110 volts?

No. The linked E6N-50LB 110 configuration is rated 240V with 4,500W input. The installer must verify the unit’s data plate and the existing circuit; 110 is part of the model name.

Will this lowboy fit where my old heater sits?

The listed body measures 34 inches high by 26½ inches in diameter. Fit also depends on the blanket, pan, top connections, service access and route into the space. WHE checks those details before confirming a replacement.

What does the six-year warranty cover?

American lists limited tank and parts coverage, subject to its written eligibility and installation conditions. Labor, removal and reinstallation are not automatically included for six years. Review the supplied warranty certificate for the full terms.
