Is the Rheem PROE47 S2 RH95 right for your replacement?
The Rheem PROE47 S2 RH95 is the 47-gallon nominal standard short electric storage model in the Professional Classic series. Its low profile offers more stored water than the smaller short models, but the wide tank and modest first-hour increase deserve attention. Water Heating Experts checks the available footprint and peak hot-water use before recommending this model for a replacement in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter or surrounding communities.
Storage, efficiency and hot-water delivery
Rheem lists 47 gallons nominal capacity, 43 gallons rated storage, a 54-gallon first-hour rating and 0.93 Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) for this exact model. Standard recovery is approximately 21 gallons per hour at a 90°F temperature rise. First-hour rating is a standardized delivery measure that includes stored hot water and recovery; it is not tank volume or a promise of unlimited hot water.
Dimensions and installation space
The manufacturer specification table lists a 32-inch tank height, 26¼-inch diameter and 34-inch height to the water connections. The connections are ¾-inch NPT. These are equipment dimensions, not a complete installation clearance. Additional room is needed for fittings, a suitable drain pan where applicable, shutoffs, relief-valve discharge and access for service.
Unlike the 28- and 38-gallon B models, the PROE47 S2 RH95 row does not carry the specification sheet’s required-blanket footnote. WHE verifies the delivered unit and current instructions rather than adding the 28 B or 38 B blanket dimensions to this model. We also check that the wider tank can pass through the access opening and be removed later without unnecessary demolition.
Electrical supply, plumbing and venting
The standard specification is 240V AC, single phase, with 4,500-watt upper and lower elements operating non-simultaneously. The two elements do not create a 9,000-watt simultaneous load in this configuration. Rheem allows specifically ordered wattage or wiring variations, so WHE checks the actual nameplate, branch-circuit capacity, disconnect and grounding instead of assuming every unit with the base model number is electrically identical.
This is an indoor electric resistance tank, with no gas supply or combustion exhaust vent. It still needs a suitable dry location, accessible controls, correctly connected water lines and an unobstructed temperature-and-pressure relief discharge arrangement. WHE evaluates water pressure, thermal expansion, drainage and the existing plumbing as part of the replacement. The manufacturer lists ¾-inch NPT water connections.
How it compares with other Rheem models
The PROE38 S2 RH95 B has 35 gallons rated storage and a 51-gallon first-hour rating. Moving to the 47 gives 8 more gallons of rated storage, but only 3 more gallons in the published first-hour test. Both use the same standard 4,500-watt non-simultaneous element arrangement and list approximately 21 gallons per hour recovery at a 90°F rise. A larger tank should not be mistaken for a higher-powered recovery system.
The 38 B model’s required blanket increases its diameter to approximately 27 inches. This 47-gallon model’s 26¼-inch diameter is therefore slightly narrower than that blanket-covered comparison, despite having more storage. The 28-gallon B model has a smaller approximate blanket-covered diameter of 24¾ inches, but only 26 gallons rated storage and a 45-gallon first-hour rating.
The existing PROE50 M2 RH95 50-gallon medium-height model is a different heater. WHE keeps this guide identified as the exact 47-gallon short model rather than relabeling it as a 50-gallon unit.
Maintenance and limited warranty
Rheem lists a protective tank lining, anode rod, resistored heating elements, sediment-reduction diffuser and brass drain valve. These features do not eliminate maintenance. WHE can assess sediment, anode condition and service access when discussing ongoing care.
The linked Rheem certificate provides a six-year limited tank and parts warranty for qualifying single-family installations, subject to its written terms and exclusions. It excludes service and installation labor and specifies shorter coverage for other installation settings. ProtectionPlus is an optional tank-warranty extension, not automatic ten-year coverage. Pricing, equipment availability and any WHE installation coverage are confirmed in the estimate.

PROE47 S2 RH95 frequently asked questions
Is this a 47-gallon model or a 50-gallon model?
Rheem lists PROE47 S2 RH95 as 47 gallons nominal capacity with 43 gallons rated storage. It is separate from the PROE50 medium and tall models.
What are its dimensions?
The tank is 32 inches tall and 26¼ inches in diameter, with water connections at 34 inches. Piping, a drain pan where needed and service access require additional room.
Does the 47-gallon model use the same required blanket as the B models?
Its row in Rheem’s PROE RH N Rev. 16 specification sheet does not carry the required-blanket footnotes that apply to PROE28 S2 RH95 B and PROE38 S2 RH95 B. WHE follows the instructions supplied with the exact heater.
Will it recover hot water faster than the 38 B model?
The standard versions share 4,500-watt non-simultaneous elements and approximately 21 GPH recovery at a 90°F rise. The 47 has more stored water and a 54-gallon first-hour rating, compared with 51 gallons for the 38 B.
What power supply and venting are required?
The standard model uses 240V AC, single-phase power on an appropriately sized dedicated circuit. It is electric resistance equipment, so there is no gas line or combustion exhaust vent. WHE verifies the actual nameplate and installation requirements.
