Electric tankless starts with the right sizing
Stiebel Eltron’s Tempra Plus and Tempra Trend families heat water as it flows through the unit. Stiebel Eltron also makes smaller point-of-use units for specific applications. A whole-home installation needs a separate assessment from a heater serving one sink.
- Simultaneous use: Which showers, faucets or appliances will need hot water at the same time? High-flow showers and large tubs deserve particular attention.
- Temperature rise: The heater must raise incoming water to the requested outlet temperature. Colder incoming water increases the work required at a given flow.
- Electrical supply: Available service capacity, voltage and the model’s required circuits affect which equipment can be installed.
We use the manufacturer’s Tempra sizing guide with your actual fixture use. A regional water-temperature estimate is a starting point; inlet temperature and fixture flow vary. A single advertised gallons-per-minute figure is not a promise for every home.
Compare Stiebel Eltron Tempra Trend models
Our individual Tempra Trend guides cover the six current sizes, including their 240 V and 208 V ratings, flow examples and installation considerations. Each is an electric tankless model. The numbers in the model names are not storage-gallon capacities.
| Model guide | Input: 240 V / 208 V | Double-pole breakers at 240 V | Recommended minimum main service* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tempra 12 Trend | 12 / 9 kW | 1 × 50 A | 100 A |
| Tempra 15 Trend | 14.4 / 10.8 kW | 2 × 30 A | 100 A |
| Tempra 20 Trend | 19.2 / 14.4 kW | 2 × 40 A | 125 A |
| Tempra 24 Trend | 24 / 18 kW | 2 × 50 A | 150 A |
| Tempra 29 Trend | 28.8 / 21.6 kW | 3 × 40 A | 200 A |
| Tempra 36 Trend | 36 / 27 kW | 3 × 50 A | 300 A |
*Main-service recommendations depend on the property’s total electrical load. Branch-circuit requirements are separate. The 208 V configurations have lower output; some also have different breaker recommendations. Open a model guide for both voltage columns and have the installation assessed by a qualified electrician.
Trend uses electronic temperature control and self-modulating heating power. Advanced Flow Control is a Tempra Plus feature. Neither the family name nor an advertised maximum GPM establishes which model will supply your fixtures at the temperature you need.

Check electrical capacity before selecting a model
An existing electric tank does not establish that its circuit can support an electric tankless replacement. Tempra models have different electrical demands, and some require multiple dedicated circuits. Electrical capacity and any required changes need assessment by a qualified electrician as part of planning. We’ll discuss the plumbing work and proposed installation with you before an estimate is finalized.
Compare Stiebel Eltron Tempra Plus models
Tempra Plus includes Advanced Flow Control. When demand exceeds the unit’s heating capacity, it can reduce water flow to maintain the selected outlet temperature. That feature helps manage demand; the model still needs to be sized for the fixtures you want to use together.
Plus also includes two temperature presets and a display showing flow rate and operating capacity. Each size shares its published electrical input with the matching Trend model. The additional controls manage demand; they do not increase the heater’s kW rating.
| Model guide | Input: 240 V / 208 V | Double-pole breakers at 240 V | Recommended minimum main service* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tempra 12 Plus | 12 / 9 kW | 1 × 50 A | 100 A |
| Tempra 15 Plus | 14.4 / 10.8 kW | 2 × 30 A | 100 A |
| Tempra 20 Plus | 19.2 / 14.4 kW | 2 × 40 A | 125 A |
| Tempra 24 Plus | 24 / 18 kW | 2 × 50 A | 150 A |
| Tempra 29 Plus | 28.8 / 21.6 kW | 3 × 40 A | 200 A |
| Tempra 36 Plus | 36 / 27 kW | 3 × 50 A | 300 A |
*Main-service recommendations depend on the property’s total electrical load. The individual guides include 208 V circuit ratings and flow examples at stated inlet and outlet temperatures. Compare the matching Trend guide from each Plus page, then have the proposed electrical installation assessed before choosing equipment.

Plan your electric tankless installation
Share the current heater’s model label, a wide photo of the installation and the location you have in mind. Tell us about low hot-water flow, temperature changes or long waits at distant fixtures. These are different concerns, and replacing the heater may not address each one in the same way. See our tankless water heater guide and installation service.

Stiebel Eltron installation questions
Can electric tankless replace my standard electric tank?
We can assess that option. Hot-water flow, temperature rise, electrical capacity, plumbing and the proposed location all need review before selecting equipment.
How many showers can a Tempra supply at once?
It depends on the model, actual shower flow and incoming water temperature. We assess the fixtures you expect to use together rather than promise a fixed shower count.
Will I need electrical upgrades?
Possibly. The existing service and circuits must be checked against the selected model and the home’s other electrical loads. That review belongs in the project plan.
Does tankless mean hot water arrives instantly at every tap?
No. Water already in the pipe between the heater and fixture must travel to the tap. Location and the plumbing arrangement affect that wait.
How do I start an installation estimate?
