Rheem PROE55 T2 RH94 55-Gallon Tall Electric Water Heater

A 55-gallon nominal and rated tall electric tank with a 72-gallon first-hour rating and 0.92 UEF. Its added storage can help with peak demand, while the standard 21 GPH recovery still matters between heavy uses.

Is the Rheem PROE55 T2 RH94 right for your replacement?

The Rheem PROE55 T2 RH94 is a conventional electric storage heater with 55 gallons of both nominal and rated capacity. It offers more stored water than the Professional Classic 40- and 50-gallon models. WHE considers it when peak demand calls for additional storage and the installation space can accommodate the tank.

Capacity and hot-water delivery

Rheem’s May 2024 specification sheet lists 55 gallons nominal capacity, 55 gallons rated storage, a 72-gallon first-hour rating and 0.92 Uniform Energy Factor (UEF). Standard recovery is approximately 21 gallons per hour at a 90°F temperature rise. First-hour rating combines stored hot water and recovery under test conditions; it is not a promise of that volume at every temperature or flow rate.

Dimensions and installation space

Rheem lists a 57-inch tank height, 22¼-inch diameter and 59¾-inch height to the water connections. Although Rheem classifies it as tall, it is shorter and wider than the PROE40 T2 RH95. The word “tall” is not a substitute for checking the exact dimensions.

WHE checks the access path, service space, plumbing arrangement, drainage and electrical compatibility. Extra room is needed beyond the published dimensions for fittings, a drain pan where required, relief discharge and future maintenance. Increasing storage also means reviewing the installation location and support rather than assuming the existing setup is suitable.

Electrical requirements and installation checks

Rheem’s standard configuration uses 240V AC, single-phase power with 4,500-watt upper and lower elements operating non-simultaneously. Only one element operates at a time in that standard arrangement. The manufacturer also allows specifically ordered electrical variations, so WHE verifies the delivered unit’s nameplate and the existing dedicated branch circuit, disconnect and grounding.

This is an indoor electric resistance tank. It requires no gas connection or combustion exhaust vent. The specification sheet lists ¾-inch NPT water connections. WHE reviews the water piping, relief-valve discharge, drainage, pressure and thermal expansion requirements as part of the replacement; electrical and plumbing compatibility are not assumed from the gallon label.

How it compares with other Rheem models

The PROE50 M2 RH95 50-gallon medium lists 45 gallons rated storage and a 62-gallon first-hour rating. This 55-gallon model adds 10 gallons to each figure. Its tank is 9 inches taller, but ¾ inch narrower. The medium model has 0.93 UEF compared with 0.92 here; UEF alone does not establish the better fit for your household.

The PROE40 T2 RH95 40-gallon tall has a narrower 19¼-inch diameter, 36 gallons rated storage and a 55-gallon first-hour rating. All three models list approximately 21 GPH recovery at a 90°F rise with the standard elements. More storage helps cover a larger initial draw, but does not mean the 55-gallon tank reheats faster after that stored hot water has been used.

Maintenance and warranty

The series includes a protective tank lining, anode rod, resistored heating elements, sediment-reduction diffuser and brass drain valve. Routine care remains important; these features do not make the heater maintenance-free. WHE considers local water conditions and service access when discussing maintenance.

Rheem lists a six-year limited tank and parts warranty for qualifying single-family installations, subject to the certificate’s conditions and exclusions. The certificate excludes service and installation labor and specifies shorter coverage for other settings. An optional ProtectionPlus tank-warranty extension is not automatically included. WHE confirms pricing, availability and any installation coverage with the estimate.

This guide uses the exact model row in the specification sheet rather than a series-wide performance range or older Energy Factor figure. Verify the supplied unit’s nameplate and instructions before installation.

PROE55 T2 RH94 frequently asked questions

Does the PROE55 T2 RH94 have 55 gallons of rated storage?

Yes. Rheem’s specification sheet lists both nominal capacity and rated capacity as 55 gallons for this exact model. Do not apply the 50-gallon model’s 45-gallon rated capacity to it.

How much hot water does it deliver in the first hour?

The published first-hour rating is 72 gallons under standardized testing. Actual delivery varies with inlet-water temperature, thermostat settings, flow rates and the pattern of use.

Is the 55-gallon tall model taller than the 40-gallon tall?

No. The 55-gallon tank is 57 inches high, compared with 60¾ inches for PROE40 T2 RH95. It is wider, however: 22¼ inches versus 19¼ inches.

Does the larger tank recover faster than the 50-gallon medium?

Both list approximately 21 gallons per hour at a 90°F temperature rise with standard 4,500-watt non-simultaneous elements. The 55-gallon model’s larger stored volume and higher first-hour rating are different from its recovery rate.

Is a ten-year warranty included?

The standard listing is a six-year limited tank-and-parts warranty for qualifying installations, subject to the warranty certificate. An optional ProtectionPlus tank extension is not automatic and does not establish labor coverage.
