Is the Rheem PROE30 T2 RH95 right for your replacement?

The Rheem PROE30 T2 RH95 is the 30-gallon nominal tall electric model in the Professional Classic series. Its narrow footprint may suit a replacement where width is limited and overhead room is available. Water Heating Experts checks both the space and your peak hot-water demand before recommending it for a home in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter or nearby communities.

Capacity and hot-water delivery

Rheem’s May 2024 specification sheet lists 30 gallons nominal capacity, 27 gallons rated storage, a 44-gallon first-hour rating and 0.92 Uniform Energy Factor (UEF). Standard recovery is approximately 21 gallons per hour at a 90°F temperature rise. First-hour rating includes stored hot water and recovery during a standardized test; it is neither tank volume nor an unlimited-hot-water promise.

Dimensions and installation space

Rheem measures the tank at 47½ inches high and 19 inches in diameter, with the water connections reaching 50⅜ inches. The difference between tank height and connection height matters when a shelf, pipe or cabinet sits above the heater. The listed dimensions also leave out the extra working room needed for fittings, a suitable drain pan, relief-valve discharge and future service.

WHE checks the access opening and whether the heating elements and anode can be serviced after installation. A tall tank that passes through the doorway may still be unsuitable if the completed piping blocks maintenance access. We also review shutoffs, water pressure, thermal expansion and the route for safely removing the old heater.

Electrical requirements and installation checks

Rheem’s standard configuration uses 240V AC, single-phase power with 4,500-watt upper and lower elements operating non-simultaneously. Only one element operates at a time in that standard arrangement. The manufacturer also allows specifically ordered electrical variations, so WHE verifies the delivered unit’s nameplate and the existing dedicated branch circuit, disconnect and grounding.

This is an indoor electric resistance tank. It requires no gas connection or combustion exhaust vent. The specification sheet lists ¾-inch NPT water connections. WHE reviews the water piping, relief-valve discharge, drainage, pressure and thermal expansion requirements as part of the replacement; electrical and plumbing compatibility are not assumed from the gallon label.

How it compares with other Rheem models

The PROE40 T2 RH95 40-gallon tall model adds 9 gallons of rated storage and raises the first-hour rating from 44 to 55 gallons. Its 19¼-inch diameter is only ¼ inch wider, but the tank is 13¼ inches taller. Moving up in capacity may therefore be practical in a narrow location only if there is enough overhead room.

The PROE30 M2 RH95 medium model offers the same 27 gallons of rated storage in a tank that is 10 inches shorter and 1¼ inches wider. Its published 0.90 UEF and 45-gallon first-hour rating differ slightly from this tall model. Fit and peak demand matter more than that one-gallon delivery difference.

Maintenance and warranty

The series includes a protective tank lining, anode rod, resistored heating elements, sediment-reduction diffuser and brass drain valve. Routine care remains important; these features do not make the heater maintenance-free. WHE considers local water conditions and service access when discussing maintenance.

Rheem lists a six-year limited tank and parts warranty for qualifying single-family installations, subject to the certificate’s conditions and exclusions. The certificate excludes service and installation labor and specifies shorter coverage for other settings. An optional ProtectionPlus tank-warranty extension is not automatically included. WHE confirms pricing, availability and any installation coverage with the estimate.

PROE30 T2 RH95 frequently asked questions

How tall is the Rheem PROE30 T2 RH95?

The tank is 47½ inches tall, and the water connections reach 50⅜ inches. Allow more room for fittings, the drain pan where needed and access for service.

Does a nominal 30-gallon tank contain 30 gallons of rated storage?

Rheem lists 30 gallons nominal capacity and 27 gallons rated storage for this model. Its 44-gallon first-hour rating is a separate standardized delivery measure.

Is the tall version better than the medium version?

The tall model is narrower and has a slightly higher published UEF; the medium model is shorter. Both have 27 gallons rated storage. WHE compares the space and peak demand before choosing between them.

Do both 4,500-watt elements run at once?

The standard Rheem configuration is non-simultaneous, so the two elements do not create a 9,000-watt simultaneous load. The actual unit’s voltage, wattage and wiring must still be checked.

Can it replace a 40-gallon heater?

Possibly, but reducing storage should be a sizing decision, not just a way to fit the opening. WHE reviews shower flow, overlapping use and other hot-water loads before recommending a smaller tank.
