A tall 50-gallon electric water heater with automatic leak shutoff
The Rheem PROPE50 T2 RH92 CS is a Professional Prestige smart electric storage water heater with built-in EcoNet Wi-Fi, LeakSense detection and a LeakGuard automatic water shutoff valve. Water Heating Experts can review this model for homeowners who want a conventional electric hot water heater with connected controls and added leak protection.
This guide covers the tall T2 version. Its cabinet dimensions and connection heights differ from the medium-height M2 model. The 4,500-watt configuration described below matches the equipment option WHE has identified with its supplier. We confirm the exact unit and installation requirements when preparing your estimate.

Source: Rheem Professional Prestige with LeakGuard specification sheet. The recovery estimate for the 4,500W option uses Rheem’s published wattage-and-temperature-rise formula. The sheet’s 25 GPH figure applies to 5,500W elements; it should not be presented as the recovery rate of the 4,500W option.
What LeakGuard and EcoNet add
LeakSense monitors for water at the heater, while LeakGuard adds an automatic valve that closes the incoming water supply when the system detects a leak. These features can help limit water escaping from the heater. They do not make every possible plumbing leak harmless, and the installation still needs suitable drainage and a properly arranged pan where required.
EcoNet provides connected temperature control, energy-use information, vacation settings, service notifications and a hot-water availability indicator. Remote functions require a compatible Wi-Fi connection and the EcoNet app. WHE can review the heater location and controls with you during installation; notification delivery also depends on the connected services.

Will the tall model fit your existing space?
Start with the complete installation height. The tank itself is 58⅜ inches high, but the listed cold-water connection reaches 63⅝ inches. Piping, fittings, the pan or platform, and access for service also need room. A closet that accommodates the bare cabinet may still need changes before this model can be installed.
Send WHE a clear photo of the entire heater area, its rating label and the piping above the tank. Include the doorway or access route if the heater is inside a closet. We review cabinet width, overhead space, removal access and the condition of existing connections before selecting a replacement. For an attic installation, we can discuss whether moving the heater to a garage is practical.
Capacity, electrical configuration and hot-water demand
The 50-gallon size is the nominal class; Rheem lists 45 gallons of rated storage. First-hour delivery also includes water reheated during use, so it serves a different purpose from the storage figure. Tell us about back-to-back showers, large tubs and overlapping appliance use so we can judge how well this model fits your routine.
The two elements operate non-simultaneously in the listed configuration. The 4,500W and 5,500W versions have different recovery rates and electrical requirements. WHE checks the supplied unit’s rating plate and existing electrical setup as part of the installation review. An old heater’s gallon size alone does not establish compatibility.
This is an electric-resistance heater. If reducing operating energy is a priority, compare a 50-gallon Rheem ProTerra heat pump model and our hybrid water heater installation service. A heat pump option needs its own location and installation assessment.
Warranty and ongoing care
Rheem lists a 12-year limited warranty for the tank and parts. Review the written warranty for eligibility, exclusions and any labor coverage; the tank-and-parts term is not a promise of 12 years of free service. Keep the equipment model, serial number and installation records available.
The heater includes a sediment-reducing self-cleaning feature, but routine care remains necessary. Follow the Rheem use and care manual for inspection and maintenance. If a leak alert or service code appears, identify the cause before returning the heater to normal operation.

Frequently asked questions
Is PROPE50 T2 RH92 CS the tall or medium model?
It is the tall version. The medium model uses M2 in its number. Their cabinet dimensions and water-connection heights differ, so check the full model before ordering.
Does this heater include automatic water shutoff?
Yes. This Prestige model includes LeakGuard automatic shutoff together with LeakSense detection. The installation still needs appropriate drainage and service access.
Does it have 4,500W or 5,500W elements?
Rheem lists both configurations. WHE’s supplier-listed option uses two 4,500W elements operating non-simultaneously at 240V. We confirm the supplied equipment during the estimate.
Is this a heat pump water heater?
No. It uses electric resistance elements. Rheem’s ProTerra models are the separate heat pump options to compare when evaluating operating energy and installation space.
How do I get an installed price?
Send WHE photos of the current installation and rating label, your location, and the model number PROPE50 T2 RH92 CS. We review fit, electrical requirements, plumbing and availability, then quote your installation individually.
