Florida Public Utilities Water Heater Rebates: Amounts & Application

Florida Public Utilities (FPU) offers residential natural gas water heater rebates to eligible customers replacing an old natural gas heater or converting from electric to natural gas. FPU currently lists $350–$675 for the qualifying water heater categories below, depending on equipment type and what is being replaced. The rebate is not a free-water-heater program or an up-front WHE discount; the utility makes the final eligibility decision. FPU is not Florida Power & Light (FPL), and its natural gas program is different from TECO Peoples Gas or propane incentives.

Program checked: October 15, 2026. Always review FPU’s current terms when applying; posted amounts, forms and eligible models may change.

2026 Florida Public Utilities natural gas water heater rebate amounts

The official FPU natural gas rebates page lists the following residential water heater allowances. The first column is for a switch from an electric water heater to a qualifying new natural gas appliance; the second is for replacing an old natural gas unit. These are potential rebates, not instant discounts; FPU confirms eligibility and the final payment.

Qualifying new natural gas water heaterReplacing electricReplacing natural gas
Standard tank water heater$500$350
High-efficiency tank water heater$550$400
Tankless water heater$675$550

High-efficiency qualification: FPU’s current public chart says a high-efficiency tank water heater must meet its stated Energy Factor (EF) threshold of 0.81. Because manufacturer model labels and efficiency metrics vary, confirm that FPU accepts your exact selected model in that rebate category before purchasing. Older FPU materials may use different qualification language.

A propane heater, an electric-only heat-pump water heater or service from a different utility is not automatically eligible for this natural gas incentive. Some installation types may require gas-line or venting upgrades; the rebate does not establish that an electric-to-gas conversion is practical at every property.

How to apply for an FPU water heater rebate

FPU offers online applications and mail-in submissions. Its official rebate instructions explain both methods. Before purchasing equipment, check the live program terms and make sure the gas bill is from Florida Public Utilities, not FPL, Peoples Gas or another provider.

  1. Confirm your FPU account and appliance category. Check whether you are replacing an electric appliance or an older gas water heater, and verify the proposed model with FPU.
  2. Save purchase and installation records. Keep proof of purchase or a retailer receipt and proof that the heater was installed. FPU prefers installation receipts but says photos may be accepted for mail-in applications. Keep the model, installation address and equipment details available.
  3. File within one year of the purchase date. FPU says rebate offers expire at the end of the 12-month period. Submit promptly rather than waiting for the deadline.
  4. Submit through the FPU Online Rebate Center or use the residential natural gas mail-in form linked from FPU’s official instructions. The rebate center is only for FPU customers; select the correct energy and account type.
  5. Track the claim. Save your submission confirmation and return to the official FPU Rebate Center. Its Track Your FPU Rebate link opens the tracking provider selected by FPU.

FPU provides a dedicated rebates line at 888-220-9356 and customer service at 800-427-7712. Ask FPU about status, eligibility or any unusual circumstances; WHE does not issue or approve utility rebates.

Water Heating Experts: planning a gas water heater installation

Water Heating Experts can assess tank and tankless installation choices in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Tequesta and nearby communities. Our work may include gas supply, approved venting and combustion air, water connections, pressure and thermal expansion considerations, safe T&P discharge, installation access and any required permitting. We verify the exact model before giving an estimate.

If your existing heater uses electricity, first establish whether natural gas service can be provided at the property and whether conversion work is justified. For existing natural gas units, compare the replacement’s venting, burner input and available space. Tell WHE which utility is on the natural gas bill and share the existing heater’s label and installation photos.

Review the complete installed cost before subtracting an unapproved rebate. See our gas water heater installation options; if your gas provider is TECO Peoples Gas, use the separate TECO water heater rebates guide instead.

Florida Public Utilities rebate questions

How much is the FPU rebate for a natural gas water heater?

FPU currently lists $500 for an electric-to-gas standard tank conversion and $350 for a gas-to-gas standard tank replacement. High-efficiency gas tanks list $550 or $400, and natural gas tankless units list $675 or $550, depending on the equipment being replaced. Verify current terms on FPU’s official chart.

Where is the FPU water heater rebate application?

Go to the official Florida Public Utilities Online Rebate Center. FPU also explains how to file by mail on its How to Redeem a Rebate page.

When is the FPU rebate deadline?

FPU states that eligible equipment and appliance rebate claims must be filed within one year of the purchase date, not simply the installation date. Keep both dates and relevant receipts.

What documents does FPU need?

For mail-in rebates, FPU lists proof of purchase, proof of installation (receipts preferred, though photos are accepted), and the appropriate FPU rebate form. The online portal provides the document upload instructions for online applications.

How do I track an FPU rebate?

The FPU Online Rebate Center displays a Track Your FPU Rebate link. Use that official starting page, and retain the claim details supplied when you applied.

Is Florida Public Utilities the same as FPL or TECO Peoples Gas?

No. The FPU rebate center is for FPU customers and cannot process claims for Florida Power & Light, Peoples Gas or another utility. Check the company named on your natural gas bill.

Can I get an FPU rebate on an electric heat-pump water heater?

The natural gas water heater rebate table described here does not cover an electric-only heat-pump water heater. Contact the provider serving your property to ask whether another program applies.

Does FPU guarantee these rebate amounts on my installation?

No. FPU decides which customers, products and expenses qualify and may change program terms. WHE can help with a model-specific installation estimate but does not guarantee rebate approval.
