The applicant must be an active Peoples Gas customer or a landlord with Peoples Gas service. Equipment must be new. ENERGY STAR tanks must meet the relevant criteria, and tankless units must deliver at least five gallons per minute. Payment cannot exceed qualifying project costs.
How to apply for a TECO Peoples Gas water heater rebate
Use the official Peoples Gas water heater rebate page to access the current online rebate application. It has separate choices for replacing an electric water heater and replacing an existing natural gas heater. The utility—not WHE—receives and processes applications.
- Confirm Peoples Gas service and equipment eligibility. A qualifying customer must have Peoples Gas natural gas service, or be a landlord of a property with that service. Check the exact replacement model and the program’s current rules before buying.
- Keep your paid paperwork. Save digital copies of purchase and installation invoices or receipts marked Paid in Full or showing a zero balance. For electric-to-gas conversions, the installer should identify the conversion on the invoice; the old electric unit’s model and serial number can help document it.
- Submit within 12 months of installation. Choose the matching replacement type on the official program page and upload the documents requested there. The online system says a saved, unfinished application is kept for up to 10 days, so do not rely on a draft indefinitely.
- Save the confirmation number. Use the official Peoples Gas water heater rebate page (choose Check rebate status) to follow up. Peoples Gas says a status of closed means approved; an on hold status typically means more information is needed. Follow the instructions sent by the utility.
Important exclusions: Peoples Gas says used or refurbished appliances, propane conversions, and point-of-use tankless models below its five-gallon-per-minute threshold do not qualify.
