Compare Bradford White replacement options

Bradford White’s residential range includes electric and gas storage tanks, AeroTherm heat pump water heaters and gas tankless equipment. We assess your existing installation and the options available through our suppliers before recommending a replacement.

  • Electric storage tank: Check hot-water demand, tank dimensions and electrical requirements. A newer tank may have different measurements from the one being removed.
  • Gas storage tank: Confirm Natural Gas or Propane (LP), the venting arrangement and the available installation space. These details need to match the selected equipment.
  • Hybrid / Heat Pump: AeroTherm is an electric option. We review airflow, condensate drainage, electrical supply and access for installation and service.

If you have an older or larger Bradford White tank, send its complete model number. We can review a current replacement without assuming that a heater with the same gallon label has the same dimensions or performance. Explore our electric water heater and hybrid / heat pump guides for more context.

Bradford White model guides

Compare current upright electric models

These nine six-year models cover 30–55 gallons nominal capacity. The guides use Bradford White’s standard 240V, single-phase configuration with two 4,500W elements operating one at a time. Compare rated storage, delivery and the finished installation space before choosing.

Blanket dimensions: RE240S6 and RE250S6 measurements exclude their supplied insulation blankets. Allow additional space for the blanket, pan, piping and service. First-hour rating includes reheating during a standardized hour; it is not stored volume.

RE340S6 and RE340R6 share listed dimensions but have different delivery and efficiency ratings. RE250T6 is the current tall 50-gallon model; the archived RE350T6 has separate documentation. RE255T6 provides 55 gallons of rated storage, compared with 45 gallons for the three nominal 50-gallon models.

See Bradford White’s current upright electric family and 1201-0926 specification sheet. For other brands and sizes, browse the water heater model catalog.

Gas and larger electric model guides

Standard tall gas models: 30, 40 and 50 gallons

Each size has a narrower RG1 version and a wider RG2 version. The guides below cover both tall versions in natural gas and propane (LP), using the standard six-year models and side T&P arrangement. Compare the full dimensions and published delivery as well as nominal capacity.

The 1101-1125 specification lists one storage, first-hour and UEF set per base row, with separate natural gas and LP input and recovery columns. It directs N to be changed to X for propane. First-hour delivery includes recovery during the test; it is not stored volume. The current Atmospheric Vent Gas family also contains other body styles; this comparison covers the selected T models only.

All listed models use 3/4-inch NPT water connections on 8-inch centers. Jacket diameter and exhaust height do not establish the complete installation footprint. WHE checks depth, venting, combustion air, gas supply and service access before recommending a replacement. Optional top T&P placement must be specified when ordering.

75- and 100-gallon high-input natural gas comparison

For a larger residential gas replacement, compare the RG275H6N 75-gallon guide with the RG2100H6N 100-gallon guide. Both use atmospheric venting. Review stored capacity, tested delivery and the available installation space together.

The 100-gallon model adds 23 gallons of rated storage and 22 gallons to the first-hour rating, with a 3 GPH increase in recovery at a 90°F rise. Its flue connection is 9 11/16 inches higher and its body is larger. These are natural gas guides; propane uses separate X-suffix models.

The listed vent size and appliance gas connection do not establish that an existing vent or supply line is suitable. WHE checks gas supply, combustion air, venting and service access before recommending either model. Lowboy electric model comparison

The lowboys are a separate residential family from the short upright models above. Compare published capacity and the completed installation footprint; three models require a supplied 2-inch insulation blanket that is excluded from the listed dimensions.

RE130L6, RE240L6 and RE250L6 require their supplied blankets. Their bare jacket diameters do not describe the finished body width. Allow additional room for the blanket, drain pan, fittings and service access. The model guides include water-connection heights and individual fit comparisons.

These guides use the sheet’s standard 240V, single-phase, non-simultaneous configuration with two 4,500W elements; one operates at a time. Other configurations require verification against the model-specific ordering restrictions and supplied nameplate. Standard side T&P placement is shown in the guides.

Sources: Bradford White’s current U.S. Lowboy Electric family, 1203-0926 specification and supplied-blanket instructions. The current 28-gallon non-blanketed listing is RE230LN6; older RE230L literature is archived separately.

For the large-volume commercial electric family, compare the current SLE280T6-1 80-gallon guide with the 65- and 119-gallon options below. The existing 80-gallon guide retains its established URL. All three use the current published 277V, single-phase, 12.2 kW simultaneous configuration; WHE checks the supplied rating plate and electrical requirements for the property.

Large Volume Light-Service electric comparison

SLE2120T6-1119 gallons63 / 28 inches1-inch NPT; 64 13/16 inches above floor

All three list 50 GPH recovery at a 100°F temperature rise, using two 6,100W elements simultaneously. A larger tank adds stored reserve without increasing the published heating input in this family. Recovery is separate from first-hour rating; the current sheet does not publish a residential first-hour rating or model-specific UEF.

The current family page includes the -1 suffix; specification 1415-0526 uses the base model names. SLE2120T6-1 is listed at 119 gallons despite 120 appearing in the model number. The family carries six-year limited tank and one-year limited component-parts coverage, subject to its commercial warranty.

Bradford White also offers ElectriFLEX commercial electric models with field-conversion options. For a home, WHE reviews the exact model, voltage, phase, input, manufacturer-approved conversion instructions, installation requirements and warranty. A commercial label alone does not establish residential suitability. See our 80-gallon electric and heat-pump comparison for the broader choices.

Match the replacement to how you use hot water

Tell us when hot-water demand is highest: several showers in the morning, a large tub, or laundry and bathing at the same time. We consider first-hour rating—the amount a fully heated storage water heater can deliver during its first hour—along with tank capacity and your installation requirements.

A wide photo of the current heater helps show the connections, venting where applicable and removal access. Mention tight closets, attic locations or an interest in moving the heater. Our installation and replacement service starts with that assessment so the estimate covers the proposed work.

Service and warranty questions

For a repair or maintenance request, call 561-602-9062 with the model, serial number and symptoms. We’ll discuss the next step and available service times. Keep installation records with your equipment information.

Bradford White provides a warranty center for checking the unit’s coverage. Its claim process runs through the service professional and distributor. We can discuss a service request, but coverage and any charges depend on the applicable terms and the work required.

Bradford White installation questions

Can I replace my existing Bradford White with a newer model?

Yes, we can assess a replacement. A photo of the complete model label helps us identify the current equipment and compare installation requirements.

Does a larger tank automatically solve hot-water shortages?

We first review your usage and the current heater’s performance. Tank capacity and first-hour rating both matter, as do available space and the home’s energy source.

Is AeroTherm a hybrid water heater?

Yes. AeroTherm is Bradford White’s heat pump range and uses electricity. We assess the location and model requirements before recommending it.

How do I start a Bradford White warranty inquiry?

Have the model, serial number and installation records ready. Check the manufacturer’s warranty information and contact a service professional to assess the problem and next steps.

Does online booking reserve the installation?

Online booking starts a free installation estimate. We follow up for photos and details, then discuss the proposed work and scheduling.
